Fishing Derby - Mike E

Dear Suburban Subaru Team, I just wanted to say how grateful we are for the fantastic fishing derby you organized this past Sunday at the Hockanum River. My children and I had an absolute blast! It is lovely to see how committed Suburban Subaru is to giving back to the community. Putting on an event for kids was so fun! We loved seeing our children's and everyone else's excitement as they reeled in their fish. It was priceless. What a great idea to partner with local vendors to add to the experience. Who doesn't love a donut and coffee in the morning to get started and ice cream and chips for lunch? Your attention to every detail, from the food to the stocked river with trout, ensured a fun-filled day. A big thank you for this: it made catching fish much easier and more fun for the young anglers! Events like the fishing derby you organized are not just fun; they make a community strong. You've provided a memory that will last a lifetime for my children and, I'm sure, for many other families. Your dedication to the community and the fun event you provided have made a significant impact. Thank you again for this.

Honoring a Remarkable Partner: Suburban Subaru's Commitment to Vernon's Toys for Tikes - Diane C

Choosing the recipient of this year's Citizen's Award for the Vernon Fire Department was a no-brainer. For over 25 years, Suburban Subaru has been more than just a car dealership – they've been a pillar of our community, especially regarding our annual Toys for Tikes program. You might remember that giant toy basket that appears in Suburban Subaru's showroom every year? Well, that's not just decoration – it symbolizes incredible generosity. Year after year, Diane Carpenter, our fire department secretary, and Rick Manas, Suburban Subaru's service manager, team up to ensure the basket is ready to receive your donations right after Thanksgiving. But here's the thing: this award isn't about us at the fire department. It's about you, the fantastic people of Vernon. You're the ones who fill that basket to the brim with toys, bringing smiles to the faces of countless children in need on Christmas morning. It's about the incredible staff at Suburban Subaru who champion this cause and make it easy for you to give back. And let's not forget the Vernon Volunteer Fire Fighters! Not only do they keep our town safe, but they also go above and beyond to ensure these deserving kids have presents to open. This tradition of giving back makes Vernon such a unique place. Every year, Suburban Subaru steps up to the plate, and together, we make a real difference in the lives of local families. From the bottom of our hearts at the Vernon Fire Department, thank you to Suburban Subaru for your unwavering commitment to our community. We couldn't do it without you! And a huge thank you to all our generous customers who continue to support Toys for Tikes year after year. We look forward to seeing that giant toy basket overflowing again this holiday!

Big Bro: From Overlooked to Forever Loved - Emily E

Big Bro came to Monkey’s Pack back in January of 2022. He was an owner surrender with his brother Big Boy. Big Bro was FIV positive, and his brother was not. (FIV -Feline immunodeficiency virus) Assuming they were bonded they were placed together but they did not like being in a confined space and were separated. Due to his FIV status, Big Bro needed to have his own space and be an only cat. He moved to a new foster home in November. Big Bro got a new nickname, Biggie. He took a bit to trust his fosters and still had his moments when he let you know he was done with attention and when he demanded more. Months and months went by and people overlooked this large handsome playful guy. We could only assume it was because of his FIV status, the misconceptions, and peoples lack of understanding of it. Overlooked but not forgotten, thanks to Suburban Subaru and their Subaru Loves Pets initiative! We were able to feature Big Bro and many of our other animals in need on their website and social media channels. Knowing their person is out there, they just needed to be seen, and thanks to Suburban Subaru that happened! Big Bro’s person appeared! A woman who wanted only 1 cat and as a child always dreamed of having a big gray cat. She fell in love and adopted him on 10/19/24. 1 year, 9 months, and 5 days in the rescue, and now is his forever home!

Love Promise CT Clean Up Story - Myla S

Dear Suburban Subaru, On behalf of the community, I would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for hosting a CT Clean Up Day at Union Pond. Despite the challenging weather conditions, the Subaru team persevered and significantly impacted the cleanliness of our beloved pond and park. Your dedication to environmental stewardship is genuinely commendable. By providing trash bags and pickers, you made it easy for volunteers to participate and make a difference. The donuts and coffee were also a nice little treat in the drizzly rain! Your efforts have undoubtedly helped to keep our community and environment clean and healthy. Manchester Lions Club – Bowling Tournament - Mike E

We are writing to express our sincere appreciation for Suburban Subaru’s support of the 25th Annual Fenix Bowling Tournament. Your contribution helped make the event a great success, and we are incredibly grateful for your involvement. This year's tournament had well over 100 bowlers participate in two different bowling sessions. We were proud to be able to raise over $7,000 for Fidelco! This amount will go towards providing guide dogs to the visually impaired and blind, at no cost to them. Over the past 25 years, this tournament has raised over $270,000 - an astounding amount that speaks to the hard work and generosity of folks like you. We appreciate the continued support of our bowling tournament by community businesses like Suburban Subaru, and we hope you'll be able to continue your support in future tournaments. We could not have such a wonderful event without the generous support of a caring community, so on behalf of the entire Manchester and Vernon Lions Clubs, thank you!

Suburban Subaru's Promise to the Town of Vernon, Connecticut - Alan A

For over 35 years, Suburban Subaru has been committed to offering community support and providing valued services to our heroes at the Vernon Volunteer Fire Fighter Association. Vernon Fire is a team of 150+ members available 24 hours a day/seven days a week and handles over 1,000 fire and 4,000 emergency medical calls annually. These volunteers put their lives on the line for our safety and do so out of a passion for service. Emergencies are not "scheduled," making training essential to everyone's success. First responders understand the dangers of working with gas and diesel cars at accident scenes, but what about electric vehicles? As a Subaru Retailer, we felt obligated to share the safety and technology found in our EV and Hybrid vehicles with our community. The safety protocols for traditional vehicles firefighters do not work on an EV. The importance of learning how to disconnect the power and de-energize EVs makes it safer for the first responders. Firefighters may have to use tools to cut someone out of the vehicle. Serious injury can occur if this situation arises and they improperly disassemble the car without turning off the power. We dedicated an evening at the retailer after hours to provide hands-on training so the firefighters can safely and expertly respond to an EV or Hybrid accident. The event had a later start than expected due to an emergency call. Led by our Service Manager, Rick Manas, and Shop Foreman, Frank Pelletier, who covered essential topics such as safely disconnecting the battery in an emergency and identifying other potential hazards. We also provided them with wire location diagrams, reviewed EV battery locations and jack points for quick emergency response. Assistant Fire Chief Alan Arel said: "Rick arranged to have several vehicles and several mechanics available to review each vehicle's features and EV-specific details. This was even more special as the mechanics and employees stayed after the shop was closed to participate in this event. This is valuable information for us as first responders, allowing our firefighters and EMTs to operate safely in and around EV vehicles." Frank commented, "The first responders were eager to ask and have their questions answered as I moved from car to car." Chief Arel also wrote a thank you letter to our team, demonstrating their appreciation and gratitude for our treasured partnership. It may seem like a small gesture, but letters like this make our love promise to the community unique! Good Morning, I just wanted to thank Suburban Subaru and Rick Manas for hosting this training / informational event for the Town of Vernon Fire Department. The Electric / Hybrid vehicle training hosted by Suburban Subaru and coordinated through Rick Manas was outstanding. Rick was fantastic at coordinating this event through. The refreshments and beverages were a lovely touch and unexpected. Rick arranged to have several vehicles and several mechanics available to review each car's features and EV-specific details. This was even more special as the mechanics and employees stayed after the shop was closed to participate in this event. This is valuable information for us as first responders, allowing our firefighters and EMTs to operate safer in and around EV vehicles. As a community partner, Suburban Subaru is outstanding in offering this specific training and information to the Town of Vernon Fire Department. Thank you again for the excellent training opportunity, and we look forward to working with your staff in the future as the motor vehicle and EV technologies evolve. Have a great day, Alan Arel Assistant Fire Chief The Town of Vernon Fire Department provides fire, medical, and emergency services in Vernon, Connecticut, and its surrounding towns.
